Definition for : Alternative Investment Market
GLOSSARY LETTER
The Alternative Investment Market (AIM) is a sub-market of the London Stock Exchange where smaller companies may Float their shares under a more flexible regulatory system compared to the main market. AIM allows less Regulation and has no requirements for capitalization or number of shares issued. Since the opening of AIM in 1995 a few companies have moved from AIM to the main market, although in the last few years, significantly more companies transferred from the main market to the AIM (because AIM has significant tax advantages for Investors, as well as less regulatory burden for the companies themselves).
